Auctioning Off Points for Internalizing Grammar
By Haesook Han
The purpose of grammar teaching is to help students develop their understanding of the grammatical facts, and to cultivate their linguistic performance through the process of utilizing learning. Based on students’ outputs, there tends to be a cycle—student makes errors, teacher provides verbal or written grammar explanations, student repeats same errors. Despite teacher feedbacks, students keep repeating the same errors. Because of this, I challenged myself to find better approaches on what would lead students to think over their errors while involving themselves in an internalizing process.
Motivating students to practice their listening, reading, speaking, and grammar skills, this activity internalizes the teaching points of grammar by chapters or units.
